Stuffit Expander is a versatile program for decoding and expanding archives and encoded files. The Mac version handles the most common type of Mac archives and encoded files - StuffIt, Compact Pro (.sit, .sea, and .cpt), BinHex (.hqx) , and MacBinary (.bin). Stuffit Expander is freeware. A shareware add-on to the package called DropStuff with Expander Enhancer adds drag and drop facilities and the ability to deal with the following file types: Zip (.zip), ARC (.arc), gzip (.gz), Unix Compress (.Z), UUencoded (.uu), and Tar (.tar). Stuffit Expander for Macintosh is perhaps the simplest way for Mac users to decode the most common files, although other packages are available.
StuffIt Expander for Windows expands files in the following formats: Stuffit (.sit), Zip (.zip), BinHex (.hqx), MacBinary (.bin), ARC (.arc), Arj (.arj) and gzip (.gz). It is a 16-bit application which works under either Windows 3.x or Windows 95. It may be useful for PC users who regularly need to make use of Mac files and archives, but it is now something of an ageing package. Stuffit Expander for Windows cannot handle segmented Zip files.
