QVT
Creating a terminal session:
To use QVT to log into the campus academic VAX computer:
Click on the QVT icon in the Network window and then press Enter. This will bring up the QVT console window.
Click on the Terminal button. This will bring up the terminal session window.
Click on acavax.lynchburg.edu This will cause acavax.lynchburg.edu to appear in the Host Name box.
Click on OK.
Type your VAX username (normally your last name or a close derivative) at the Username: prompt.
Type your password at the Password: prompt.

To log into another computer follow steps 1. and 2. above then do the following:
3. Type the Internet Address of the computer you wish to log into in the Host Name box.
4. Click on OK.
5. Enter a username and/or password as required by the host computer.
Multiple Sessions
QVT allows the user to have more than one terminal session active at one time. For example, one may log into the College's VAX computer following the instructions above and then using ALT-TAB (or any other Windows task switching function) to move back to the QVT console window and start another terminal session (say to the College Library).

An additional session can also be opened by pressing Alt-T while in an active session screen.

To move from one session to another the user need only use the standard Windows task switching functions such as ALT-TAB or CTRL-ESC or the QVT switching fuction of Alt-N.

Screen Printing
To print the contents of your screen while in a QVT terminal session, simply hold the ALT key down and press the F2 function key. i.e. ALT -F2 prints the current screen.

Scroll Recovery
During a terminal session (i.e. while connected to a computer via Telnet) information may "scroll" off the screen. QVT retains up to 128 lines of information which has scrolled off the screen. These lines may be viewed by clicking on the up and down arrows of the scroll bar at the right edge of the QVT terminal session window.

Fonts
QVT enables user to select a font for the printer and the screen. After a terminal session has been established the user may click on Setup on the top menu. Selecting Font will enable the user to change the font which is displayed on the screen. We recommend either IBM or DEC Large. Please note that the IBM font will not support VAX 132 column mode.

In order to change the printer font, the user must select Printer after clicking on Setup and then select Select Font. In order to save the changes made the user must click on File at the main menu and then click on Save Configuration.

Installing QVT
Installation of QVT, although not difficult, is best done by College Computing Services personnel. Please call extension 604 to request installation or send mail to HELP@ACAVAX.LYNCHBURG.EDU requesting installation service. A file containing installation instructions is located in G:\PUBLIC\PUBNET\DOCS\QVT.DOC
