How do I register a new ICQ number?
Once ICQ is installed successfully, the registration process will begin automatically. If for any reason the registration does not begin, you can start the registration process manually by simply running ICQ:
Click on the Windows Start Button in the Task Bar.
Select Programs.
Select ICQ.
How do I unregister my ICQ number from the ICQ network?
The option to delete your ICQ number from the ICQ network is currently unavailable. However, by using the Remove User Details option, you can instead remove your personal information from the publicly viewed ICQ directories. If you choose this option, you will still be able to use your ICQ number at a later time.
To remove your personal information, click the Main button. Choose View/Change My Details. Click the More Options button. Choose Remove User Details. From the dialog box that displays, choose Yes to remove details, or Cancel to exit without removing your personal information form publicly viewed ICQ directories.
When I registered, I received an "Unknown Database" error message. What should I do?
Check your Internet connection and try again later. Also check if you are working from behind a firewall or a proxy server. If you are, make sure all the firewall requirements are met. Check with your system administrator for more details. If you are still receiving an Unknown Database error message, try to register without identifying details.
I'd like to chat with someone new. Can I find random chat partners?
Yes: You can search for chat partners by interest, location, language, or other criteria. Click the Status (flower) button in your ICQ window. From this menu, choose Chat with a Friend -> Find a Chat Partner. In the Chat with a Friend dialog box, click Find an Online Chat Friend to begin your search.
How do I send a chat request to a contact?
To send a chat request, right-click the contact's name and choose Send/Start ICQ Chat, fill in a subject for the chat ,and click Send. After the other party accepts the chat request, ICQ will connect you and display the chat window.
How do I save a chat session?
The chat file is saved as an .RTF file on exit. When you save the buffer - it is saved as a .TXT file.
What exactly is the Contact List and what's on it?
The Contact List is the list of friends with whom you communicate on ICQ. In the ICQ terminology, a contact is a different term for a buddy or a friend you can locate or add to your ICQ Contact List. Once you have added users to your Contact List you can easily send to them messages and other ICQ events.
How do I edit, delete or create a group in my Contact List?
In order to Edit or Delete a group, right click the Group's name. You can now choose to add, delete, or rename a group. Note: You can't delete or rename the General group.
To create a new group, right-click Contact List Groups at the head of your Contact List. In the groups menu, choose Create New Group option. In Create New Group dialog box, enter a name for your group. Click Create. Move a contact into the new group either by dragging the name into the group or by clicking it. In the user menu click Move to Group and choose the name of the group.
