The following is a list compiled from our experiences of applications that may cause an Internet connection to either stay open longer than necessary or continually keep a link open.
- E-mail checker programs that constantly monitor and get e-mail will cause a link to open on a periodic basis. Depending on the volume of e-mail you can receive or the number of people using such programs links can stay open for long periods.
- News ticker services.
- ICQ set in LAN mode will check for messages every 25 - 35 seconds.
- Yahoo with a stock sticker turned on.
