About FTP

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) allows the transfer of files between two networked computers. It is most often used to exchange files with larger, remote host computers. FTP is a common method used to upload web pages to a web server if you are not using a web creation software with built-in publishing features (like Microsoft FrontPage).

To copy a file to another computer with FTP, you will need three items:

FTP client software (such as WS-FTP)
The destination FTP Server address (usually ftp.yourdomain.com)
A username/password with login privileges on the target FTP Server.
FTP can also be used as an alternate method to copy files to a web server that are not suitable to publish via FrontPage (ie. files over 1-2 megabytes in size such as database files, large hi-res graphics, etc.).

We recommend WS_FTP on IBM/compatible systems due to its ease of use and advanced features, and Fetch on Macintosh systems due to its wide availability and large number of users.
