To utilize Telnet on the VAX simply type Telnet at the VAX $ prompt.

$ Telnet.

The VAX will respond with TELNET>

At the TELNET> prompt type the Internet address of the computer you wish to connect to. For example:

TELNET> library.dartmouth.edu

To obtain HELP on using VAX Telnet one may type HELP at the TELNET> prompt or type HELP Telnet at the VAX $ prompt. i.e. $ HELP Telnet.
Some special Telnet services are best accessed via VAX Telnet. For some of these special VAX commands have been created for ease of use. For example, $ WEATHER will connect the VAX user to the weather information center at the University of Michigan.
